Last week we got the news that YouTube is restricting videos to play at standard defination (SD) in Europe as all the people are working from home and the network can’t cope with these many users.
Now YouTube has done this worldwide for a month. This is rolling out for all the regions worldwide for a month which can be extended in future depending on the Corona Virus situation.
So, when you start playing a video, by default it will start playing at 480p or 360p. Previously it was completely dependent on your network speed but now YouTube has restricted it to standard definition (SD).
If you want then manually you can change the resolution. It’s just that you’re going to need to do this for each single video, every single time. People will not do for each and every video and this will reduce the pressure from the ISPs. Because people never used to watch YouTube in office but now as the whole world is working from home and people are watching YouTube videos during work hours so YouTube has taken this step to reduce some load from the Internet Service Provides.
