Following Wistron’s sale of its Indian facility to the company, Tata Group will soon be producing iPhones in India. Wistron is one of the authorised iPhone makers in India. The Tata Group is now the first company in India to produce iPhones.
For those who are unaware, the Tata Group has been in negotiations to purchase the Karnataka-based Wistron facility. The other two Indian producers of iPhones are Foxconn and Pegatron. It’s important to remember that “Made in India” iPhones are merely assembled within the nation, rather than being created from the ground up. It is also disclosed that the Tata Group is expected to pay $125 million for the acquisition of Wistron Corp. In a tweet, IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar verified the news and thanked Tata Group on the acquisition.
